The next step will be to load dd-wrt software onto the linksys router, which I am hopping will stop the occasional loss of wan connection (about 1 minute drop). I tested a netgear wrnd4300 router (had to clone MAC to make the switch between the routers quickly) with latest dd-wrt build and it worked reliably. I prefer the linksys router. Reply

Where do you see the connection on the admin gui for the users that have connected using the VPN PPTP connection. I looked at all the screens and did not see the 192.168.1.150 address that i setup for the router to issue for the PPTP VPN users.
If it doesnt work, make sure VPN passthrough is enabled in WRT54G (this model supports passthrough but might be disabled). Using a cable and connecting laptop directly to cablemodem and trying VPN connection will also eliminate possible Linksys oriented issues.

Easy fix is to go to router settings and enable DMZ for your computers IP address. I just recently purchased a new WRT54GL wireless router to replace my D-Link DI-624. After configuring it with the standard Linksys firmware, I could no longer VPN (using IPSec) into my office. DHCP support, DMZ port, MAC address filtering, NAT support, Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI), VPN passthrough, auto-uplink (auto MDI/MDI-X), dynamic DNS server In my opinion, it’s routing and wireless abilities are total crap. Long ago I installed a Linksys WRT54G router that has been flashed with DD-WRT. This allows bandwidth monitoring, proper port forwarding, and also gives me the ability to connect via VPN remotely to help them out with problems on rare occasion.
